“What upsets people is not things themselves, but their judgments about the things.”

Specialties & Experience

  • I have experience helping my clients with a wide array of life challenges, including:

    • Carefully revisiting traumatic experiences from childhood and throughout life while fostering healthy integration in the present;

    • Depression and anxiety;

    • Fostering healthy relationships in the family and your social circle;

    • Separation and divorce;

    • Meeting health, mental health, and work challenges.

    I have training in family mediation, marriage and family therapy, trauma therapy, and working with dissociation and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have conducted numerous interpersonal and psycho-educational groups. I have experience supervising new and developing psychotherapists and am meeting the requirements of a qualified supervisor under the CRPO. I have been certified as a Validated Supervisor with the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP).

    My approach is informed by a relational and trauma framework, with a view of validating client experiences, empowering clients to use the tools available to them to meet their life challenges, respectful inquiry, and collaboration to improve their well-being in the here-and-now while working through the effects of earlier experiences and habits.

  • I have held a status appointment with the University of Toronto, Department of Psychiatry, for supervision in marriage and couples’ therapy. I offered practicum supervision to numerous Psychotherapy students from U of T (OISE and York University). I have continued supervising Registered Psychotherapists throughout the progression of their professional qualifications.

    My approach is relational and interactive and includes attention to the safe and effective use of self, parallel process, healthy self-care as well as healthy boundaries, awareness and meeting the challenges of a diverse client and/or supervisee population, empowerment, and support to develop highly qualified and influential psychotherapists.

In a trusting and confidential relationship with an experienced therapist, you are invited to develop an awareness of how your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and sensations reflect not only your reactions to the present moment but also those to past events that have become habits and function outside of your awareness. By bringing curiosity and openness to noticing, learning to step back from automatic reactions, helping the body and mind to stay grounded in the present, and finding the courage to try something new, you will be able to find new paths in life.

Hi there,

I was born and educated in Germany, graduated after six years of university education in Clinical Psychology in 1976 and emigrated to Canada. The University of Toronto evaluated this degree as equivalent to a master’s degree. Since the establishment of the College of Registered Psychotherapists, I have been a clinical member in good standing with this College.

In the past 40+ years, I have added training and experience individual, couples and family therapy, as well as group therapy and in various interventions and approaches. Working in community agencies and a women's shelter has added sensitivity and commitment to trauma and anti-violence work. For 20 years, I have been passionately engaged as a full-time psychotherapist at Women's College Hospital in the Trauma Therapy Program. I retired at the end of 2018 and am now offering private appointments and supervision.

I speak fluent German and English and can offer services in both languages. I also know a little French and Spanish.
